A. Freezing individual Gel packs
Depending on the required number of gel packs to be frozen:
2. Lay each gel pack on a flat surface in the freezer (unfold the packs if needed to make the pack flat) – Gel Packs should be well frozen after 24 hours. (there is no need to flip the packs over for freezing)
If there are multiple gel packs to be frozen:
3. Take the required number of gel packs out of the shipper carton
4. Lay the packs on flat racks (top to bottom) in a freezer and repeat step 2. – Gel Packs should be well frozen after 24 hours. (there is no need to flip the packs over for freezing)
Once the gel packs have defrosted after use to refreeze steps 1 – 4 can be repeated multiple times.
B. Freezing pallets lots of gel pack cartons
- Once a pallet is received:
1. Remove any pallet wrap or pallet netting from around pallet
2. Place 8 cartons on a pallet with a 3cm spacing between the 8 cartons. (This helps airflow around all the cartons and the air slots in the ends of the cartons, which achieves more effective freezing).
3. Stack a further 3 layers of 8 cartons on top of the first layer in 2.
4. For stability in the freezer, net wrap the pallet (do not use pallet wrap).
Using the above pallet preparation procedure, a pallet of Thermogard cartons can then either be:
· Frozen down in a freezer at -22 deg C (for a minimum of 3 weeks in a commercial freezer)
· Blast frozen at -22 deg C (for a minimum of 48 – 72 hours in a commercial Blast Freezer)
